Jefferson County Tax Watch
We have much higher Property Assessments from the Property
Appraisers Office and the new Budget has tons of Waste
The new value the Property Appraisers Office has set for Christmas Acres is $35,000 per acre. My value last year was $15,000 and now it is $82,500.

Monday September 18 is the last day to dispute the new excessive values for our land. I spoke with my County Commissioner and another property owner contacted him about his mobile home and lot that has has the value of his property increased by $40,000 for the last 2 years in a row. I have never seen a mobile home go up in value $80,000! It appears the county is wanting to spend more money and I feel we will see no improvement in and services the county provides.
UPDATE: I went to the Property Appraisers Office and showed them my property value when up 5X in one year. She took my information and would contact me before the 18th(the deadline to request a hearing) and heard nothing until 6:00 PM on Tuesday. I think they hoped to prevent me from requesting a hearing. The campaign to elect another Property Appraiser is now under way! I did request a hearing and it will be on Oct. 19th

List of things to investigate:

1. Taylor road still has trees blocking half the road 3 weeks after the storm. The blockage is on a curve causing a safety hazard.

2. The planning Dept. wants to add $50,000 to the budget for e-mail for the county. I feel this can be done much cheaper!!

3. Is the Solid Waste Department run solely on the funds from the assessment taxes on homes? If not why only home owners are allowed to use the dump sites iin the county. The sites are manned while they are open. How much did this add to the cost of the Solid Waste Departments budget?
The fees added to you homes for solid waste are about $250 per year and we have to deliver it ourselves. In Leon county the cost for weekly home pickup is only $172 a year. Why do we have to pay so much more?
UPDATE: I discovered the assessment is going up and the county has used general funds to supplement the Solid waste budget. For those that cannot use the dumps due to not having a house with the assessment fee are paying for a service the county is refusing to allow you to use.

More to come ( with your help )

We need new representatives that will not bleed us dry with higher taxes.

We need every property and home owners to join us to share their experiences with excessive taxes and government waste in Jefferson County Florida before they spend our hard earned money. We need everyone to attend County Commission meetings to let them know we want some accountability or they could be voted out.
